Tornado rips through Purcell, Oklahoma spawning trail of damage as severe storms barrel across Plains
A radar-confirmed tornado ripped across Interstate 35 and part of Purcell, Oklahoma Thursday morning, knocking down power lines as a powerful line of thunderstorms barreled their way across the Southern Plains.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning for parts of Oklahoma on Thursday morning. A "damaging" tornado was detected four miles southwest of Etowah, moving northeast at 45 mph, the NWS said.
Debris and damage were found after a tornado touched down Thursday morning in Purcell. Around 7:30 a.m., radar confirmed tornado debris near North Fourth Street east of Highway 77. KOCO 5 Field Meteorologist Michael was in Purcell shortly afterward, showing some fences knocked down and limbs on the ground.
